Val McDermid, the best-selling crime author, may be best known for her tales of fictional detective work, but now she faces the prospect of cracking a case of her own.
The Scottish author, who has sold more than ten million novels, has revealed that her home, in Stockport, Greater Manchester, was burgled this weekend.
McDermid is currently in America, on a book tour, but said that thieves had taken her Audi A6 estate, and that her partner and child had been left to deal with the burglary.
